Walk MS: Frequently Asked Questions
What if there is rain in the forecast?
We will walk RAIN or SHINE! There are more than 1,550 Delawareans living with the challenges of MS despite rain, extreme heat, or cold weather and they need you! In the event of inclement weather, some routes do have indoor accommodations and we will still have food, team photos, and a MS orange celebration!
Where should I park? Is parking free?
Parking is available at all Walk MS sites free of charge. Click on the “Event Details” tab for directions to your walk site. Or call our office at 302-655-5610 and we can mail you a copy.
When should I register?
The easiest way to register for each of our walks is online! To register, go to www.DelawareWalk.org and select a walk from the drop-down menu. Then, click on the orange “Register” button at the top of the page. If you’ve already registered online, you will head to the “Pre-Registration” table on the day of your walk to turn in any of your pledges and sign your walker ID. It’s that simple!
If you choose to register the day of the event, you will head to the “Day-Of Registration” table at your walk location on the day of the walk. You will need to fill out and sign a walker ID form and turn in any of your pledges. All walkers will also have 30 days after the event to fundraise!
What is the Walker ID?
The walker ID includes your personal information, amount of funds raised prior to the walk, and a waiver that must be signed in order for you to participate in our walk. Because the walker ID includes a waiver, you may not participate in the walk without filling out and signing a walker ID.
What time should I arrive?
All walk sites will open registration one hour before the kick-off of the walk. It is best to show up at least a half hour before the walk starts to complete the registration/check-in process. Walker bibs will be available which have space to write your team name and/or who you are walking for. Remember that all walkers turning in at least $25 will receive a ticket for the post-walk meal. Raise $100.00 and you will earn the coveted Walk MS T-shirt!
Should I bring my pledges to the walk or mail them to the office?
Bring any pledges/donations you have collected in your pledge envelope to the walk. Remember that all walkers turning in at least $25 will receive a ticket for the post-walk meal. If you raise at least $100 by walk day, you will receive a Walk MS T-shirt at the event. Please note: Walk MS T-shirts will not be mailed after the event, so don’t forget to pick-up your T-shirt if you’ve raised your $100.
If you are planning on raising more money after the walk, you have 30 days after the event to continue your fundraising. Mail in any extra donations to our office at: NMSS Delaware Chapter, Two Mill Road, Suite 106, Wilmington, DE 19806. Checks can be made payable to NMSS and don’t forget to include your name in the memo, so the check is allocated to your account.
If you raise more than $250, don’t forget to fill out and turn in a Prize Selection Form (available under the “Event Details” tab at DelawareWalk.org) once you have completed your fundraising. We will then mail you your prize coupon to use on our Prize Fulfillment Website!
How does the society use my fundraising contributions?
40% of each donation funds critical research projects at the national level into the cause of MS, the development of new and more effective treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
Programs and Services for more than 1,550 Delawareans living with MS and their families are also funded. In the past year, programs and services included free counseling, a caregiver essay contest, home modifications, financial assistance, scholarships, Adventure Fund trips and so much more!
To give you an idea of just how impactful your donations are to the Delaware Chapter:
- If you gave $25 through Walk MS, you may have funded 10 round trips on a para-transit bus for a person with MS who is unable to drive.
- If you raised $500 through Walk MS, you may have funded 3 days of respite care for someone who is the full-time caregiver for a loved one with MS.
- If you gave $1,000 through Walk MS, you could have funded emergency mortgage assistance for a family in crisis.
What should I wear?
Please dress weather appropriate, as all the walks will go on RAIN or SHINE! Wear comfortable walking shoes and don’t forget to sport your MS ORANGE attire! Teams may wear matching T-shirts, but they are not necessary to walk as a part of a team.
Can my friends or family register the day of the walk?
Of course! Just have them go to the “Day-Of Registration” table when they arrive. If you would like to start a team of four or more people, contact our MS Teams Coordinator at 302-655-5610 for more information.
Should I do anything different if I’m walking on a team?
Generally, all team members should check in individually on the morning of the walk. Some teams will qualify for a separate registration check-in area. If your team has qualified, your team captain will contact you.
Once you have checked-in, either at regular registration or at your team’s registration table, look for the designated Teams area at the starting location. Get a special treat for the walk from our Teams Coordinator and get your team photo taken! Remember, official teams must be registered and have 4 or more walkers.
Is there a way to give feedback after the walk?
We’d love your feedback! After the walks, you can log on to DelawareWalk.org and take our Walk Survey or give us a call at 302-655-5610.
What is My Participant Center?
Your Participant Center is an online promotional tool for your use when asking your friends and family to join your team or sponsor you by making a donation. Once you sign up for an event online, by default, you will have a personal page created for you. You have the option of personalizing this page . You will be able to customize images, text and the style/color layout of the page.
What is the difference between making my personal page private or public?
By default, a personal page is Public, meaning your name will appear in the participant search list, and anyone accessing the site will be able to support you. Setting your personal page to Private means your name will not appear in the participant search list, and only people you personally invite will be able to support you.
How do I unsubscribe from e-mail?
Towards the bottom of each e-mail message there is a link stating, "Click Here to Unsubscribe from this E-mail Message." Click this link and follow the instructions given to unsubscribe.
